The Narada Michael Walden Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of young people by supporting music appreciation and education for Bay Area youth. Through grants, scholarships, educational programs, performances, mentorships and collaborations with community organizations the Foundation provides opportunities for emerging young artists.
Among a handful of the most innovative, original and influential artists of our time, Narada Michael Walden’s stature as an authentic musical renaissance man is a matter of record.
Producing Hits for Artists as diverse as Aretha Franklin (including the platinum “Freeway of Love.”), Steve Winwood, Ray Charles, Wynonna Judd, Whitney Houston, George Michael, Mariah Carey, Barbra Streisand, Lionel Ritchie, Lisa Fischer, Stevie Wonder, Tom Jones, Jeff Beck and The Temptations, the EMMY and multi-GRAMMY winner (Producer, Album and Song of The Year) has been at the helm of hit music that spans decades. His music flows freely from pop, rock and soul, to the rarified realms of jazz, fusion and world music. With Jeff Beck, Narada wrote and played drums on the seminal album “Wired” that earned them both their first Gold Album. Walden was an integral part of introducing Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey to millions of fans worldwide, producing and writing their breakthrough hits that first brought these divas to the spotlight. Billboard Magazine honored him as one of the Top Ten Producers of all time.
The Narada Michael Walden Foundation creates hands-on education programs in music production and performance that encourage and support tomorrow’s music shapers. We develop opportunities for talented young people to learn from the masters past and present and to perform with top music industry professionals.We challenge young artists to reach high in their pursuit of excellence, to experience creativity, love and delight through music and to be inspired to make a productive contribution to our community, our nation and our world.
Founded by producer, singer, songwriter, musician, performer, teacher, philanthropist and three-time Grammy and Emmy winner Narada Michael Walden, the Foundation is a volunteer-based organization with no full-time staff and minimal overhead. We work with musicians, songwriters, vocal coaches, producers, music business professionals and internationally-known artists to develop individually tailored instruction, immersions, workshops, mentoring and performances.
