Dear Mr. Pechner,

Thank you for your email asking about my experience concerning the pre-college summer program at the Academy of Art. I am incredibly grateful for the scholarship awarded to me by your foundation, which allowed me to attend. I had a wonderful time learning new things and meeting others who are interested in the arts. I took classes in graphic and visual design. The graphic design class was by far my favorite because I got to learn about how art forms such as that apply to the real world. We got to study advertisements and packaging, and we got to make our own logos. Visual design helped me to learn how to use computer art programs such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. These are both things that I am considering for a possible career. Yes, I am interested in the four year scholarship program. Please let me know what I need to do to be considered. Again, thank you so much for the wonderful experience this summer at AAU. It wouldn't have been possible without the generosity of your foundation.Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank You for Giving Me the Opportunity to go to the Academy of Art University

September 24, 2012

To the board of directors of Narada Michael Walden Foundation,

I just wanted to thank you for giving me the opportunity to go to the Academy of Art University. I was in a pre-college art experience program, which was very informative and fun! I was in comic book illustration, introduction for acting, and motion picture and television. I feel like during this experience I learned a lot about everything that I want to really do. I want to illustrate comic books, start acting, start filming, and from those classes, I know how. I am looking forward to hopefully attending Academy of Art University after high school. I’d like to thank you and Academy of Art University so much for giving me a head start on my dreams! I truly appreciate it! I was able to experience the college life, and I LOVED IT..!!!

I would like to send a special thanks to Felicia Gaston with Performing Stars for always looking to make my dreams come true. You have kept my acting alive since the age of 7, starting with Shakespeare, loved playing Othello, Romeo, and Hamlet now I’m trying to do this for a living. God bless you all and thank you for the opportunity. Thank you all VERY much..!!! Sincerely,

Daniel Dwayne Vaughn

Thank You for the Opportunity to Attend the Academy of Art University Summer Program

September 25, 2012

Dear Narada Michael Walden Foundation, Thank you for the opportunity to attend the Academy of Art University Summer Program in San Francisco.

There, I learned a lot of useful tools such as cutting and shopping for fabric, pattern making and how to read a magazine properly. The Fashion Construction class was my favorite; this class taught how to make my first garment! Another class I took was Fashion Styling; in this class I learned how to style garments using different patterns, colors and textures. I created mood boards and styled a photo shoot with a partner which I really enjoyed. Having these new skills under my belt will help me venture toward my dream career in the Fashion Industry.

I am very grateful to have been chosen to receive a scholarship from NMW Foundation. I hope that other students will be able to experience this amazing program with the continued support of NMW Foundation and Felecia Gaston of the Performing Stars. Thank you both for thinking of me and contributing to this fantastic experience!

Thank you, Mia Simone Mims

We Were Completely Surprised by the Recognition of Caroline as Artist of the Year

January 8, 2013

Dear Narada and the NMW Foundation Board of Directors,

Mike and I are writing to share our great appreciation and gratitude for a not-to-be-forgotten event at the December 2012 Holiday Jam, all for the benefit of supporting youth and music awareness in the Bay Area. From the music and celebration to the good company, it will be a highlight of our lives and our daughter Caroline’s. To top off an incredible evening of hearing the “who’s who” of musical talent – – Sammy Hagar, Jeff Watson, Tom Johnston – – we were completely surprised by the NMW Foundation’s recognition of Caroline as “Artist of the Year.” The award will always be a reminder of your inspiration and belief in a child’s dreams. More importantly, the natural way you share your talents will inspire that same action by her to do the same for others.

Narada’s world-recognized talent as a producer, songwriter and drummer make him a well-known and admired celebrity. But, it is Narada’s ability to give, mentor, and shine new light into a child’s life that distinguishes him as a loving and kind human being, and lends special significance to the work of his Foundation. The Foundation has supported Caroline in performing, writing, singing, and even producing her music. These are experiences that will form — and strengthen — her skills as a growing musician.

And, finally, THANK YOU to the board of directors, an impressive group of professionals guiding the NMW Foundation. Merl, Merry, and Sandy have the right backgrounds and vision to advance the Foundation’s work and make a real impact on youth in the Bay Area. And, Kimrea and Jim, have the “know how” to deliver on dream-making for kids.

So, you can see, we’re big fans of Narada and the NMW Foundation. We hope to continue our support of and involvement in the NMW Foundation for a long time to come.

Kara and Mike

Thank You for Giving Nico this Opportunity to Sing!

January 17, 2013

Dear Narada,

This is Nico’s mom WeiWei. I just want to say thank you so much for giving Nico this opportunity to sing at the Narada Michael Walden Foundation Holiday show. All the musicians on stage were full of passion and love to support this organization. It was an amazing night for me. I have never seen Nico sing so beautifully or shine on the stage so fearlessly. I can’t believe it was her first time. This was high light of her year and the best Xmas gift for me.

It is definitely inspired her so much. Since that night, she has started to practice almost every day and night. She has also started to write her own songs. She just told me today that you chose her to go to your book signing day this coming Friday to sing Whitney Houston’s song. We all feel so honored by that. Thank you Narada, I can’t wait to be there to support you.

Love Wei

Thank You for the Amazing Opportunity to Perform at the Holiday Show!

January 20, 2013

Dear NMW Foundation,

Thank you for the amazing opportunity to perform at the Holiday Show! In that one night, I was exposed to the music of some of the greats: Tony Lindsay, Sammy Hagar, Tom Johnston, Nikita Germaine, Sakai, Jeff Watson, Angela Bofill, and of course, the Narada Michael Walden Band. Just being on the same stage as these incredible artists was such a humbling experience. (I count the Little Drummer Boys as being one of the greats as well: I was lucky enough to get a few marriage proposals from them!)

I’d also like to thank you for the Artist of the Year Award! I was so surprised and happy; it was a night I’ll never forget. The show was already so fantastic, but you worked your Narada magic and made it even more special.

The NMW foundation is so inspirational and I see every day how it changes children’s lives. As a kid myself, I know how important music is to my life. Music can change my mood, heal my pain, and make other people happy.

You are my mentor. The first time I met you was in June at your studio. As soon as I walked through the doors, I could feel that I was in the presence of someone truly great and wise. You once said that, “Music is a gift from God.” Thank you for helping me have a deeper understanding of what that really means.

Thank you, NMW Foundation, for everything you’ve done to help me on my musical journey, and to be the best musician I can be.

Lots of love,
